Increase Adsense Earnings Using Competitive Ad Filter – Part 1

You might be wondering why you are not earning much from Google Adsense even if you are getting decent traffic. Why you are getting very less amount per click? From the last few days I was also going through the same situation and I used the Competitive ad filter option of Google Adsense to improve my earnings.
You might be getting less earnings per click (EPC) because of unrelated ads or MFA (Made for Adsense) websites. Such websites pay very less amount say $0.01/click. You can use Competitive ad filter option to block such websites from appearing on your blog. The Competitive Ad Filter is the option in Google Adsense which allows you to block specific ads, such as competitors’ ads, from appearing on your pages.

How to get list of websites to block ?

Now you might be wondering how you can get a list of websites to block in your Adsense account. You can follow these simple steps.
  • First sign in to your analytics account to get list of your top 10 high traffic posts.
  • Now open any of these posts and see the ads that are appearing on these posts.
  • Look at the following screenshot:

You can see “Online Office Romance” ad marked with circle around it. My blog is on technology and the ad is of romance website. This ad has nothing to do with my blog. My blog readers are interested in technology, blogging, WordPress and Gadget. They will never click on ads related to romance. So what you will do here is just copy the URL of this type of ad and save it in competitive ad filter of Adsense. Competitive Ad Filter is located at Adsense Setup -> Competitive Ad Filter.
  • To get the target URL of the ads, you can use the Adsense Preview Tool.
  • Similarly you can get a list of more such ads and keep adding them in competitive ad filter.
Do this regularly and check the results after 1 week. If you notice any changes in your earnings then do let us know through comments here.
